ANC calls for resignation of Regional A’s director

MIDRAND - The ANC's greater Midrand Zone 15 has called for the resignation, or alternative sacking, of Region A's director Abigail Ndlovu.

Speaking at a march the party organised on 25 May, secretary of the zone Dalton Ramaoma said Ndlovu was incompetent and arrogant. Ramaoma handed their list of demands to Housing MMC Dan Bovu, who accepted the memorandum and said, “The ANC would be failing in their mandate if they did not take the demands of the people to the right doorsteps.”

The party gave the Mayor’s office seven days to respond to their demands.

Earlier in the day, at Rabie Ridge Stadium, where the march started, EFF members who tried to join the march were told that they were not invited and that they were not welcome to join in. Councillors from the ruling party read out their list of demands which included the development of land in Rabie Ridge and President Park and job creation in the form of government learnerships and internships. The latter received the loudest applause from the assembled crowd. The marchers moved from the stadium via Modderfontein and Dale roads and the K101 to the Region A offices on 15th Road in Randjespark.

Upon their arrival at the region’s offices, police were guarding the gate and the South African Communist Party and members of ANC military wing led the song and dance.

Marchers sang ‘we are fighting for our rights’ and other impassioned songs until it was announced that the housing MMC would accept the marchers’ memorandum. “Away with laziness and incompetence, away! We want strong and decisive leadership now,” said Ramaoma. A sentiment that resounded with many of the marchers as they walked back to their township homes on the outskirts of Midrand.
