Moholane’s family first reported her missing on 16 May when she did not come home. She had last been seen in Pretoria CBD boarding a taxi at 7pm on the day. A picture of Moholane was circulated on social media, and her family and friends went on a campaign to find her using the slogan Bring Back Our Girl.

A friend of hers, Sibusiso Mtimunye, said the news came as a shock. “I’ve known her for five years or more, we met at church,” she said.

Mtimunye was also one of the organisers of the campaigns which were held in Pretoria and Midrand.

“I’d just like to thank the community for coming together and doing what they could to help find her,” she said.

Ursula Ndhlovu, the institute’s media relations officer said, “We are very saddened to hear of her passing. She was too young.”

She went on to describe Moholane as a dedicated student who always attended her lectures.

“We are organising [trauma debriefing] for those who were fellow students who knew her.”

Moholane’s brother, Kgotso, said the family was not yet ready to comment on her death.
