Driver locked in back of truck after hijacking and armed robbery

NOORDWYK - Three armed suspects hijacked a truck on Plane Street in Noordwyk at around 7.30pm on 26 May and the truck driver was later robbed and locked in the back of the truck.

 

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the suspects forced the the truck driver into their vehicle and left the scene in their vehicle and the truck. It is believed the truck was carrying liquor. “They drove to Glen Austin where they robbed the truck driver of the amount of R19 000 and about six bottles of wine and two bottles of brandy,” said Tlamela.

She said the suspects then forced the truck driver into the back of the truck and left the scene with the key to the truck.

“No one has been arrested yet and the police are busy with the investigations,” said Tlamela.

In an SMS that was making rounds in the Midrand community, it was believed that the suspects were driving a grey SUV.
