Service delivery march to municipality offices

IVORY PARK – Thousands of marchers gathered at the Rabie Ridge Stadium for a service delivery protest on 25 May.

There was a strong police presence as those participating in the march took to the streets to protest the level of service delivery in the country.

EFF protesters were  reportedly told that they were not welcome at the march.

The march started at Rabie Ridge and made its way through to the municipality building on 16th Road in Midrand.

ANC councillors announced a list of demands that were to be handed over to the Mayor and Regional Director. Issues that were brought to light, like job creation received deafening applause by those taking part in the march.

The marchers then made their way to the Region A municipal offices on 15 Road, stating that they were fighting for their rights, where a strong police presence, as well as members of the ANC military wing stood watch.

A memorandum was handed over to MMC for housing, Dan Bovu which stated that the ANC was calling for the resignation of regional director Abigail Ndlovu, citing incompetence and arrogance as the reasons.

Bovu accepted the memorandum on behalf of the mayor and said the ANC would be irrelevant if they did not take peoples issue to the relevant doorsteps.

The protesters reportedly dispatched peacefully.

Midrand Reporter journalist Thandi Ntobela tweeted from the scene of the protest:
