Women arrested for bribery and shoplifting

MIDRAND - Midrand police recently arrested two women on shoplifting and bribery charges.

The women were found on 25 April at around 3.33pm in possession of branded clothing and shoes that they could not provide proof of purchase for.

The police said they were alerted by a popular clothing store’s security at Boulders Shopping Centre of the women. The security personnel of the store said the women entered the shop and when it was time for them to leave, instead of leaving through the bar code alarm system at the door, they approached one of the guards.

The guard said they offered him R500 bribe to let them leave the store with the items. The guard refused and called for back-up. The women were searched and during the search, 13 jeans, two pairs of Puma shoes and All Star sneakers were found. The items are estimated to be valued at about R11 181.

The women were immediately apprehended and the police were called in.

“Both suspects will appear in court facing charges of shoplifting and bribery,” said constable Matome Tlamela, head of communications of the Midrand police.
