Step out and make a difference

JOBURG - Swap your heels and brogues for running shoes and sneakers on 29 May and don't forget to pay your Tekkie Tax.

Special Olympics South Africa, based in Bryanston, encourages the public to purchase their Tekkie Tax stickers or register as a co-ordinator to spread the word about Tekkie Tax.

Tekkie Tax is a national fundraising campaign which incorporates several South African welfare organisations.

There are five different sectors of welfare organisations to choose from and each member of the public can select which one, or more, which lies closest to their heart and can obtain the sticker for just R10 which represents that group.

The different sectors are animals, basic family care, children, disability and education.

Some might want to walk the extra mile and lace up their tekkies with a funky pair of shoelaces. These can be purchased with a sticker for an extra R30.

Special Olympics SA said the public can get involved by registering with the organisation as a co-ordinator for their school, business or company or they can talk about Tekkie Tax and Special Olympics SA to their friends, family, co-workers and pretty much anyone they come into contact with.

Stickers, posters and Tekkie Talk newsletters can also be ordered from Special Olympics SA.
