In celebration of Mother’s Day

PARKWOOD - IN CELEBRATION of Mother's day, Kaya FM together with Spar will be hosting the first annual Kaya FM Mother’s Day concert to be held at the Johannesburg Zoo in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ).

Kaya FM’s unique music position of soul and jazz is what will make this Mother’s Day a unique one.

The event promises a performance by platinum-selling South African singer, model and actress Lira, supported by the internationally-acclaimed Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg.

This first-ever collaboration of the artists will be under the musical direction of conductor Kutlwano Masote; who made his debut during the 2006 Arts Alive Festival conducting the music of Todd Matshikiza and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Part of the line-up also includes Maleh, who is a South African Music Award winner for her album Step Child Maleh.

Families attending can look forward to interacting with Kaya FM personalities such as Bob Mabena, Mo-G and other friends of the station. As a family station, fun games have been arranged for kids, whilst good music and Zoo tours will be available throughout the day.

“Collaborations are important for Kaya FM, so we are excited about our partnership with Spar and JCPZ on Mother’s Day. Kaya FM always strives to create experiences that are suitable for our Afropolitan audience and the Johannesburg Zoo is a perfect setting for a family-orientated event,” said Kaya FM managing director Greg Maloka.

“Our music genre of soul and jazz is what makes Kaya FM special and we thank Lira, the Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg and Maleh for collaborating and sharing their voices and music with us,” he said.

Celebrating mothers should be done every day! Kaya FM and Spar are certain there is no better way to celebrate mom, than to spend the day at the Johannesburg Zoo, listening to good music, with good friends, amongst the sights and sounds of Joburg’s rich fauna and flora, Maloka added.

Bulumko Nelana, managing director of Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo said,“These partnerships play a significant role in bringing families together, experiencing outdoor venues like the Zoo and having fun, all in one space.”

Johannesburg Zoo has put in place the expertise of an acoustic consultant to ensure that the sound levels are closely monitored and to safeguard the well-being of the animals.
