Business TV channel stands up against xenophobia

JOBURG - CNBC Africa is taking a stand against xenophobic attacks.

The African leading business TV channel in Sandton is taking a stand by donating R250 000 worth of commercial airtime on the channel to companies and organisations wishing to place advertisments that fight xenophobia or promote peaceful co-existence in Africa and South Africa.

The channel’s management and staff in all regions universally have come out to condemn any acts of xenophobia or violence against foreigners living in or visiting South Africa. “CNBC Africa hopes that companies will take up the offer and respond generously in order to assist in combating xenophobia and its debilitating effects,” said Sian Schlebusch, the marketing executive of the channel.

“South Africa has been rocked by an outbreak of violent xenophobic attacks. In May 2008, thousands of foreigners were forced to flee their homes in local townships across the country when locals attacked them in a wave of xenophobic violence.”

Schlebusch said CNBC Africa has taken its official stand against xenophobia and encourages companies and brands who are interested in their campaign against the xenophobic attacks to join forces with them and end the stigma against foreigners.
