Sagewood School celebrates 30 years

MIDRAND - Sagewood School held what they described as a Unique Amazing Race in celebration of their 30th anniversary.

Tembu Tete, head of sports and recreation at the school, said the race was dictated by the use of an electronic tablet.

The tablet described an obstacle course which pupils, with the help of their parents, had to overcome in order to win a Justin Bieber CD.

“ [The tablet is] loaded with a batch of general knowledge questions. To personalise the game, Sagewood School included questions about its history,” he said.

History and parent participation are seemingly two important factors of the school. Tete said there were too many successes to list, however he tried. “[We’ve] consistently achieved excellent matric results, we have produced individuals who have remarkable achievements such as the founders of Loxion Culture – the designer brand, who are Wandile Nzimande and Sechaba Mogale.”

Tete also mentioned that Rhina Bhagat, now a nuclear physicist employed at NASA, is one of their alumni.

“We have grown a school from a mere 16 pupils at its inception to a total of 900 pupils, together with starting at humble beginnings to being housed on a campus with state-of-the-art facilities.”

On 18 April though, Tete said they appreciated the support they received from community members and parents.

“Despite the cloudy, slightly nippy weather, our parents arrived in their numbers. We all experienced entertaining fun, laughter, camaraderie, family unity and excitement, which left everybody in high spirits, generating good will,”

“[We hope] to continue the legacy of providing excellent education that is relevant, prevalent and in support of societal needs,” he said.
