Meet Miss Commonwealth contestant Precious Mamosebo

MIDRAND - This is no ordinary beauty queen – Precious Mamosebo describes herself as a 22-year-old dreamer.

It is for this reason, she entered the Miss Commonwealth South Africa pageant.

The aim of the pageant is to empower women with knowledge to bring about needed change in their communities. The winner will represent South Africa at the International pageant in London in November 2015.

The young woman seems to be able to straddle both worlds, as she dreams big but at the same time has both feet firmly planted on the ground, as evidenced by the practical and wise choices she’s making; one of them being studying. She is currently studying towards a Bcom degree in Economics at the University of Pretoria.

This yin and yang balancing of her life is brought about by her desire to change lives she said.

“I’m working on bringing a positive change [to those who are less fortunate],” she said.

Mamosebo said it is for this reason she is involved in projects such as the Bapedi ba Tuks, an organisation that promotes cultural and heritage activities in which she is deputy chairperson. She is also in the Thinkbig39 strategic planning committee and many other youth development organisations.

“As a semi-finalist I am [also] raising funds for the PinkDrive charity,” she said. Mamosebo said she believes she can bring a positive change to society should she win the Miss Commonwealth title.

“It will bring a wonderful impact to the work I am already doing of being an ambassador of change,” she said.

“My passion drives me to inspire youth to dream big, work hard and achieve.”

The grand finale of the competition will take place at The Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City on 12 September.
