Nursery school treats less fortunate little ones

VORNA VALLEY - Red, yellow and green balloons lined the entrance of 345 Nursery School Vorna Valley to commemorate its 10th anniversary on 15 April.

The school decided to celebrate the occasion by helping children less fortunate than those who attend the school, so 30 children from an Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) in Ivory Park were bussed in to also enjoy the celebration. Frans Matsobane, who oversees 16 ECD centres around Gauteng accompanied the children.

“I feel that it is important that these children start learning outside of school. The invitation to celebrate with 345 Nursery School was a great opportunity for these children to be exposed to new things,” he said.

He said the trip was especially important as the children seldom got the chance to leave the township and go on field trips.

All the little ones made paper crowns, decorated cupcakes and enjoyed a jumping castle. They also listened to stories and made things out of play dough.

When it was time to leave, the children from Ivory Park sang a song thanking the staff for welcoming them. And much to their delight, the littlies were given party packs to enjoy at home.

Matsobane said, “We are very thankful for today and the children have had an experience they will never forget.”
