Security company awards pupils

MIDRAND - ADT Teach, an ICT-based programme that was developed in partnership between ADT and South African Education and Environment Project (SAEP), awarded certificates and prizes to Midrand pupils.

The prize-giving ceremony for the Grade 10 to 12 pupils, which was held at Rabie Ridge Community Hall, celebrated the achievements of top achievers and pupils who took part in ICT lessons. The programme teaches computer literacy to schools which include three Midrand schools, Allanridge Secondary, Tsosoloso Ya afrika Secondary and Umqhele Secondary.

General manager inland at ADT, Theunis Kotze, congratulated the pupils on their commitment. “The project is a success because of the schools and ADT Teach’s commitment. ADT is empowering communities through the educational programme.”

Bridging year programme and SAEP ADT Teach manager Sean Wilson said,”The three Midrand schools’ Grade 11 and 12 pupils were awarded certificates and received computer-related prizes, while Grade 10 pupils are inducted into the programme.”

A pupil from Allanridge Secondary School said, “I enjoy the computer lessons we get through ADT Teach.”

Deputy principal at Umqhele Secondary School, Thomas Moabelo, thanked ADT Teach. He said, “These young people will be empowered by the computer skills they are receiving through the programme.”

The programme also offers learnerships within ADT for pupils after matric, some are permanently employed later on within the company.
