Councillor plants 100 trees on Earth Day

MIDRAND - Ward 112 councillor Candice James planted 100 trees around Midrand on Earth Day on 22 April.

Midrand Reporter caught up with her at Noordwyk Primary School where she planted 12 trees.

James said, “On Earth Day, one billion trees will be planted or seeded around the world. I have planted some around the ward to encourage people to protect the environment.”

James also went to other schools and areas around Midrand, including Reddam Waterfall, Active Kids, Poplar Academy School, Noordwyk Primary, Halfway House Primary School, Smuts Drive and Barbeque Downs.

Grade 7 pupils at the Noordwyk Primary School, Boitumelo Motshwane and Grace Shoba, said they enjoyed planting trees. They said, “We are learning how to protect the environment, that’s great.”

Principal Lynelle Marx thanked James and two employees Mandla Kgosana and Titus Manamela from City Parks, who helped plant trees at the school.
