Councillor plants trees for World Earth Day

BARBEQUE DOWNS - In honour of World Earth Day, Ward 112 councillor and head of Barbeque Downs Community forum, Candice James, planted around 93 trees in and around her ward on 22 April.

Earth day encourages the public worldwide to actively do something to address global warming and climate change. It also promotes green and eco-living. This year, communities all over the world were challenged to plant over a billion trees, and this is what encouraged James to plant the trees.

“As a community we decided 28 trees will be planted in Barbeque Downs, this will benefit the community in the future and ensure the area is green,” said James.

James had been up since 8am and was accompanied by Joburg City Parks employees, Edward Kuosana and Titus Manamela, who helped to plant the trees.

James also visited Waterfall Reddam House School where 10 trees were planted.

She also encouraged the community to get more involved in green and eco-living.
