Several injured on N1 after bakkie collides with a vehicle and crashes into cement barrier
MIDRAND - Several people were injured when a bakkie collided with another vehicle and then crashed into the cement barrier on the N1 north before Allandale off ramp on the evening of 11 April.
ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said, “It is appears as if six people were sitting on the back of an open bakkie when it collided with another vehicle causing the driver to lose control and crash into the cement barrier.”
He said paramedics arrived on the scene found the injured passengers scattered across the lanes of the highway. “Five of them sustained moderate injuries and were treated on scene before being transported to nearby a nearby hospital,” said Vermaak. He said another man was found lying several meters away from the bakkie with critical injuries and he was airlifted to hospital.
“It is understood that the occupants of the second vehicle was transported privately to hospital prior to paramedics’ arrival on scene,” said Vermaak.
He said the N1 highway was closed off to traffic while the paramedics were on scene and the cause of the incident was not yet known.
