Little feet make a difference

MIDRAND - ActiV Kids, a preschool in Vorna Valley that encourages activity while learning. recently had a march for human rights whereby the young pupils of the school walked and were occasionally driven to Vorna Valley Spar from their school on Pretorius Avenue.

Bhavani Sundram, mother to Hasemti who is in Grade R, said, “The kids were actually motivating the parents to carry on.”

“The march was about the childrens’ rights, which is good for them to know at this early age,” she said.

The school’s principal, Amsie Govender, said although their children are young, they tackled their walk bravely. She said she felt it was an important message for them to know and practise in their daily lives from a young age.

“It is all about value-based education,” she said. “If we have the proper values such as love, peace and proper conduct in our education system, we will produce proper leaders.”

She said the march was not just educational, it was meant to be fun for the children as well. “It was an amazing day, we had fun with the drum majorettes.”

“The community just understood, because we were promoting this in a loving way,” she said. She said she welcomed the community’s spirit and the way they encouraged the children as they walked.

“We had excellent support from the Metro police and our parents. We ultimately achieved what we wanted, [which is to march all the way to Spar].” she said.
