R75 million in lottery winnings still unclaimed

JOBURG - National Lottery operator, Gidani, has revealed that there was a R75 million in unclaimed prizes to date.

Gidani spokesperson Dudu Ndendwa said among the unclaimed prizes is a R21 million Lotto Jackpot prize that was won on 19 March last year and was likely to expire on 19 March this year if unclaimed. “The winning ticket was bought in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, and matched the following six winning numbers including 2, 9, 21, 29, 42 and 47,” said Ndendwa. She stated that players have 365 days from the winning draw date of a particular game in which they could claim their prizes. Uk 49’s lotto has in the past also recorded incidents of unclaimed lottery winnings.

However, Ndwendwa appeals to players to validate their unclaimed tickets on a regular basis at their nearest National Lottery terminal to avoid any unforeseen circumstances. Draw results are also available through the National Lottery website www.nationallottery.co.za or players can phone the Gidani player helpline.

Ndendwa said, “We also remind players to sign their tickets after each purchase to minimise any misfortune.” The list of prizes that have not yet been claimed are: Lotto 1474 11/02/2015 R10 017 622 Gauteng, Lotto 1418 30/07/2014 R16 500 587 Mpumalanga, Lotto 1380 19/03/2014 R21 479 384 Gauteng and Power Ball 495 12/08/2014 R27 720 442 Eastern Cape.
