Armed robbery as family prays

MIDRAND - A man said that his evening prayer with his family was interrupted by two armed robbers on 17 February.

Constable Matome Tlamela, head of communications at the Midrand Police Station, said the family was sitting outside in their yard on Visser Street in Vorna Valley when they saw two men jump over their fence.

One of the robbers was armed and the other immediately told them to enter the house. The unarmed man tied the family up with cable ties.

Tlamela said they took the victim and his wife’s wedding rings, Samsung S5 and S3 cellphones, a 42-inch TV set, two sets of car keys, and left. The estimated value of the valuables taken is R80 000.

The thieves instructed them not to look at them while they lay on the ground. But the man managed to sneak a peak at the robbers’ getaway car. It was a silver Mercedes.

Residents are cautioned to be vigilant and to light up their exterior perimeters. They are also asked to ensure that their alarms are working and to report any suspicious vehicles in their neighbourhoods to the relevant authority.

Tlamela said no arrest had been made with regards to this case. “The police are still busy with investigations and are hoping to bring the suspects to book.”
