Amidst the discussion around potholes and the quality of roads in Gauteng, one company has decided to take matters into their own hands.

Probuild Construction Group decided to rebuild the road that leads to their offices, London Lane in Knoppieslagte.

Mark Guthrie, site agent at the company, said they wanted to rebuild the road as it was in a terrible state. “Cars were being damaged when they were travelling on the road, so we decided to do something as the road is near our offices.”

Guthrie claims that they did not seek assistance from any government road agency, as their pleas would have fallen on deaf ears.

“People have made them aware of the situation on numerous occasions, but nothing had been done.” The team worked for a week on the road in December last year in order to get it into shape again, however they did not wish to disclose the costs involved with such a project.

Johannesburg Roads Agency could not comment on the work done by Probuild as the road belongs to Centurion which is under Tshwane Metro Municipality.

Guthrie, however, said as civil contractors, they did not need other expertise in order refurbish the road, “We are civil contractors, we build roads for a living.”
