Bogus prophet rapes woman in toilet

MIDRAND - Police are looking for a man believed to be a bogus prophet who allegedly raped a woman on the weekend of 6 February.

The victim had been walking from Ivory Park Ext 13 to Ext 11 at the time of the incident.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “The 19-year-old victim said the suspect first identified himself as a plainclothes police officer, and later he said he was a prophet.”

The suspect allegedly prophesied things she had gone through, and the victim felt they were true. The suspect then told the victim that he had to pray for her and lured her to a house along the street where he could pray for her in private. At the house the suspect talked to a lady who was there and asked to use the toilet.

“The suspect convinced the victim to go to the toilet with him as it was private enough to pray in immediately. Once in the toilet, he raped her and then stole her belongings she had left in his car,” she said.

It is alleged by the victim that the house owner whose toilet they used did not realise what was happening. After the incident the girl just left and went to report the matter at the police station. The victim said she could not scream or ask for help. It is not clear if the suspect had threatened her.

Police are investigating the matter.
