Tobacco stolen from truck

MIDRAND - A British American Tobacco delivery vehicle was hijacked in President Park.

An employee of the company filed a complaint with the Midrand police on 14 January.

He said he left Rabie Ridge Police Station heading towards Midrand CBD and as he turned from Republic Road into Kruger Road, a silver BMW X5 pulled up behind him and forced him to stop. Two men jumped out of the car and pointed firearms at him.

They instructed him to move out of the van and pushed him into the BMW. They drove along Modderfontein Road and dropped him off on the corner at Olifantfontein Road and Old Johannesburg Road.

He then walked to a Caltex garage nearby where he called his company. His boss came to pick him up and they drove to the crime scene where they discovered that about 16 boxes of cigarettes were stolen from the van.

“No one was injured and police are on the prowl for the suspects,” said head of communications at the station, Constable Matome Tlamela.
