Through the course of the year she made use of an application on her iPad and her phone called Simple Mind as a learning aid. Come matric finals, she said she didn’t even open a book. “It’s much more effective to use the app because it’s a lot easier to edit notes and everywhere I went I had my phone on me so I could access my notes any time and it’s much more organised”,she said.

“I didn’t even know if I was capable of reaching ten distinctions so I never admitted to anyone what my goal was,” she said. An excited Edwards said she is extremely happy with her results and was excited for what lays ahead.

She said she has received invites from a couple of universities.

Edwards is opting to start her tertiary career by studying actuarial science at the University of Cape Town. “It’s going to be hard but I hope that I keep believing in myself and carry on with my hard work ethic because I know actuarial science is going to be a challenge.”

She said she was on holiday in Plettenburg Bay with family when she received her results. “I received two messages and then I saw my matric reference number and without reading them I started screaming that the results were out. My whole family came running out with champagne and then I read out the results and I was shocked to see more and more As”.

Edwards believes through hard work and dedication anyone can achieve similar results and pupils should consider utilising resources available on the internet and exploite the vast knowledge of tutorials available on YouTube.
