Police take preventitive measures

MIDRAND - Pikitup employees got a visit from Midrand police on World Aids Day as part of the police's awareness drive.

They were joined by the Department of Health in their bid to educate and reinforce preventative measures in the community. The event was held at the company’s 16th Road offices.

The Department of Health was represented by Sister Agnes Maseko who spoke to the workers on how they can avoid contracting HIV/Aids, and how they can protect their partners from the virus. Her talk put an emphasis on the use of condoms.

Constable Matome Tlamela, head of communications for Midrand Police Station, took the opportunity to speak about different forms of domestic violence in order to recognise 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Child Abuse.

“It is everyone’s duty to love and protect women and children against abuse,” she said.

Tips, such as reporting a matter to the police, were also given in order to break the silence that is associated with sexual offences.
