No power cuts expected today

JOBURG - No forced power outages are planned for today, Eskom said.

“At the moment the risk is low and we do not anticipate load shedding today,” said Eskom’s media desk.

However, the power utility warned that any risks to the power system could change the prognosis for the day.

“We will later issue a system status bulletin to map out the way forward for the weekend ahead,” it added.

The power utility continued to call on all consumers to use electricity sparingly.

Earlier this week, Eskom’s CEO Tshediso Matona said there was a high risk of load shedding for today and tomorrow (11 and 12 December).

Eskom has been battling to prevent the country from being plunged into darkness following the collapse of one of its coal storage silos at the Majuba power station in Mpumalanga.

Last week, Eskom implemented load shedding for a third consecutive weekend – this time at stage three.

The outages were reinstated on 8 December.
