Prioritise paying municipal bills this festive season

JOBURG - Along with happy festive season wishes, the City of Johannesburg is also reminding its customers to ensure they pay their accounts in full before getting swept up in the silly season.

The city council’s revenue and customer relations management department noted that many customers defaulted on their payments over this period.

“We understand that many families feel the pinch in their pockets at this time of the year, but we want to remind our customers that they are required to settle their municipal debts,” said the department’s spokesperson, Stan Maphologela.

“Our credit control procedures continue throughout the holiday season, and we would hate to see a situation where any of our customers find themselves with the discomfort of [being] without access to basic services like water and power simply because they missed a payment.”

Payments can be made via debit order, direct bank deposits, ATMs, internet and cellphone banking, the post office and EasyPay – a payment option at many shops including Pick ‘n Pay and Shoprite Checkers.

Further payment facilities include pay-points at municipal Customer Service Centres:

  •  Midrand Civic Centre – 300 15th Road, Midrand.
  •  Sandton Civic Centre – 24 Fredman Drive, Sandton.
  •  Thuso House – 61 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein.
  •  Roodepoort City Hall – c/o Berlandina and Dieperink streets, Roodepoort.
  •  Randburg (Civic Centre) – Braamfischer Drive and Jan Smuts Road, Randburg.

All municipal pay-points will be open during normal trading hours over the holiday season. Operating hours to the respective centres are available at (www.joburg.org.za/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=32).

The city council encouraged the public to make payment even if they failed to receive an account this month.

Those who had not received a statement were advised to either pay the same amount as the previous month or call Joburg Connect on 086 056 2874 to inquire about the amount owed.

The public could also register on the city council’s website (www.joburg.org.za) to receive their monthly accounts via email.
