Preschools sing in remembrance of Nelson Mandela

MIDRAND - As the world commemorates the death of South Africa's greatest icon, the littlest people of the Midrand community wanted to add their voices as well.

The #Madiba and the #RememberMadiba hashtags trend here and abroad, and these young angelic voices hope to trend in your hearts for the day.

On 5 November, the Space Age preparatory school in President Park had their closing party, celebrated by the reception class and the Grade 1 pupils all the way to Grade 5. They decided to merge their celebrations with remembering all that Mandela had done for them.

Hopkins Kaira, the Grade 5 teacher at the school said they combined the Christmas party with the commemoration as the children took two weeks to prepare, “I hope that they learn from his legacy and implement his teaching in their lives.”

Future Stars Preschool in Vorna Valley was just as excited to dedicate their morning to Madiba. The children of the school coloured in Madiba’s face in all sorts of colours, some surely the old man would have been proud to see.

They also sang their hearts out with their rendition of “Nkosi sikelel iAfrika”.

“They just love Madiba,” said their teacher, Sharona Potter. “All their pictures of Madiba are absolutely gorgeous.”
