Woman robbed at ATM

MIDRAND - A woman claimed that she was at an Absa ATM on Old Pretoria Road in Halfway House when she was robbed of R1 000 cash and her cellphone.

She said she was at the ATM withdrawing cash on 3 November. Shortly after she had turned away from the ATM, a man approached her from the back and instructed her to give him the money she had just withdrawn.

According to her, the man was carrying a sharp object that he pushed on her waist. Although she was not injured, it was painful enough to convince her that he would stab her if she didn’t do as she was told.

He got away with her money and LG E9 cellphone which is worth R4 000.

As he ran away with her valuables, the woman screamed for help, but the security could not catch the thief.

Constable Matome Tlamela, the Midrand police’s head of communications, said the case was still under investigation.
