The gun is authentic; men charged

MIDRAND - The five men who were arrested on corner Le Roux Road and Old Pretoria Road have been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, in addition to the possession of a stolen vehicle.

It has now come to light that the men were spotted by two undercover police who were on duty at Morris Street on 11 November. Constable Nanty Belebesi, social crime prevention co-ordinator, confirmed the men are from Alexandra and are between the ages of 25 and 30 years.

The white Toyota Avanza with tinted windows aroused the police men’s suspicions at about 11.30am while stationary on Morris Street. They did a check on the vehicle and found the vehicle had no license disc. The policemen suspected that the vehicle fitted a description of a car that was linked to other burglaries.

After tests had been done, they found the vehicle had been reported as stolen in Alexandra.
