Six speedsters cuffed

MIDRAND - Metro Police nabbed six motorists for speeding on the N1 South near Alexandra off-ramp in Midrand on the weekend of 1 and 2 November.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the motorists were arrested by the Sandton Metro Police who had an operation on the N1 between 10pm and 6am on the two days.

“The highest speed recorded was by a male driver using a silver BMW 320, he was moving at 215km/h. A 28 year-old man was also caught driving his grey Alfa Romeo at 204km/h”

Minnaar said the suspects were booked at Midrand Police Station and released on R1 000 bail each. Metro Police also five fines to other drivers who drove above 130km/h in a 120km/h zone and issued 32 other fines during the operation and captured 129 photos of speeding cars.

“Metro Police want to send a stern warning to motorists who speed, any person who drives 40km/h over the speed limit will be arrested,” said Minnaar.
