Motorist with fraudulent drivers cuffed

MIDRAND - The Metro police made an arrest at the Engen garage between Alsatian Road and Dale Road.

According to arresting officers, officer Mmako Mahlane and officer Tebatso Ramoroka, the man was found with a fraudulent drivers licence.

The man had been driving his white Mercedes Benz on Allandale Road on 30 October at about 10am. He passed a red traffic light on Alsatian Road and nearly hit a minibus taxi filled with people.

The police chased him and he eventually stopped at the Engen garage.

“He was very arrogant,” said Ramoroka. “He asked us who we were to stop him and ask for his licence.”

After the man produced his licence, the officers checked the details on it with their radio room and found the license was fake. They then asked him where he had obtained the licence,”he said he got it at some downtown spaza shop in Johannesburg,” said officer Ramoroka.

The man resides in Klipfontein.

Constable Matome Tlamela of the Midrand police confirmed a case had been opened with them on the day of the arrest.
