School defends itself against vexed parent

MIDRAND - A parent said he is appalled at the way Midrand Primary and High School treated his child.

Tino Chirau explained, “The school turned away my child when schools opened on 13 October due to non-payment of school fees. The worst thing was that they gave a list of children’s names to school cleaners and turned children away.”

He said he received a call from the learner transport driver telling him his child is being taken back home. “The school sent a text message to remind parents to pay fees, but school management did not show proper courtesy by just turning children away.”

“I owe the school R2 000, but they now say I owe R7 000. The school is claiming a balance of the full year. I have now removed my child from the school.”

School Principal Preshima Beharie stated Chirau owes the school a lot of money and he has evaded calls and text messages sent to him as reminders. “While others parents owe R1 500, Chirau owes R7 000, The school has accommodated him and other parents in this regard.”

“One parent owes R6 000, but she has approached the school and asked for a payment arrangement she can afford. If Chirau had done the same we would have assisted him.”

“We reach a respectful agreement with parents, with an agreed-upon payment plan, bearing in mind the fees ensure the sustainability of the school.”
