Sounds of terror at preschool

VORNA VALLEY - The children of the Valley Pre-Primary school in Vorna Valley are being denied a decent education due to a noisy neighbour.

This is according to the school’s principal and owner, Rosemarie Rogerson. She said her neighbour of about 22 years has become a nightmare to live with.

Rogerson said her neighbour plays loud music during school hours on his three megaphones that are faced directly towards the school.

“He said he wants this school to close down,” said an emotional Rogerson. “When I ask him about the children’s education, he simply says he doesn’t care because he did not put them here, I did.”

According to Rogerson, the school has been active for 35 years and her noisy neighbour moved into the area knowing there was a school. The noise levels of the children started to bother him only in recent years.

“He even went to the authorities and tried to convince them that we were not registered.” However, this attempt was quickly shut down, because the school was fully registered with the relevant authorities,” she said.

Other neighbours have also had to bear witness to the tug of war between the school and their neighbour.

One such neighbour went as far as to write an affidavit with the police. “I found this very distressing and it should be stopped immediately,” wrote the neighbour after she described an incident whereby the so called noisy neighbour played a distorted version of noisy and crying children on his megaphones.

Rogerson also produced a letter written by another neighbour whom she claims works from home. “The wonderful and happy sounds of children singing and playing are an absolute joy,” wrote the anonymous neighbour.

Although Rogerson has approached the police, she said they couldn’t do anything as they claimed the neighbour was within his rights to play music.
