Midrand High School celebrates 21 years

MIDRAND - Midrand High School recently celebrated their 21 years of existence through a series of themed events.

The four-day long celebration marked their third day on 27 September, which was a sports and market day.

A host of people came to show support and to showcase their talents in sports and entrepreneurship. One such family is Marlene Naidoo’s family. “We came to support because my 20-year-old and 14-year-old daughters are alumni of the school,” said Naidoo.

Group1 Hyundai Midrand was a chief sponsor for the school’s celebrations. “As a small independent dealership, we want to get involved in the community,” said Johan Jooste, the dealer principal at the dealership.

“We want to get involved with the school and we are hoping for a mutually beneficial, long-term relationship.”

The pupils of the school were also enjoying the day and the festivities associated with their school’s 21 years celebrations. “It’s so different from the normal routine. It is fun seeing everyone dancing and having fun,” said Grade 9 pupil, Bianca Luwanda.

Kelebogile Madumo, a Grade 9 pupil, agreed with her. “I’m enjoying the music and just dancing.”

The deputy school principal, Camy Reddy, was present and was overseeing the events of the day. She appreciated the support that was given to the school by past alumni, the attendance by current pupils and the participation of pupils’ parents contributing to the success of the four days.

“On 29 August we cut the cake and that was so special, as pupils were all given cupcakes. We’ve also had a beauty contest and a braai on Heritage day.”

“We are grateful to everyone who made all of this possible,” she said.

The school ended their celebrations on a serene note. They held an interdenominational thanksgiving service on 28 October.
