It’s a shoe in

TEMBISA - Representatives of insurance company Old Mutual and Two Oceans Marathon were in Tembisa to hand over 166 pairs of school shoes.

Seotloana Primary school pupils were the happy recipients of the generous donation which was made possible by funds that the company and the marathon’s More than Yourself campaign raised for the Put Foot Foundation.

The foundation is a volunteer-based, South African public beneficiary organisation and non-profit organisation set up to tackle the daily plight and indignity experienced by children with no school shoes. Kaya FM’s sports reader Mosibodi Whitehead was present on the day to hand over the shoes to the children.

Whitehead said, “It was an honour running the marathon knowing that I was taking part for more than myself. Doing it for a good cause makes it all the more special. It is humbling to know that taking part in the most beautiful race in the world will ensure that children at Seotloana Primary do not have to go to school barefoot.”

Nelson Makanda, Old Mutual’s provincial general manager said, “It is collaborative efforts like these that help to improve the lives of other South Africans. “We are very proud to support Put Foot and help to make it possible for learners to walk tall, take their education seriously and keep taking steps towards a brighter future.”

The principal of the school, Hilary Tabudi Ramokgopa was thrilled by the contribution and said, “Our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds so we are grateful for the support and encouragement.”
