Firefighter honoured

MIDRAND - Firefighter, Iain Fourie said it was important to honour men and women who serve communities.

He said, “I took a photo of a Midrand firefighter Xolani Zakwe when he helped a child at an accident scene in Carlswald.” Fourie said the accident took place after a bus drove into the back of a school bus carrying more than 20 children.

Fourie explained that the photo was striking. “It gave an image that we are in good hands. A firefighter calmly walking with a little girl who was probably shocked by the accident.” He added that the Midrand Station 19 crew and emergency services that arrived at that accident scene were professional, courteous and efficient.

Zakwe said he was happy to be acknowledged.

“I have been a firefighter since 2011,” he said. “The best part of my day is when I respond to an emergency and we help everyone out alive from an accident scene.”
