Africa’s automotive route to be mapped out

MIDRAND - South African Automotive Week will be held at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.

The three-day event will be held from 14 to 16 October and will boast the theme ‘Africa’s Automotive Awakening: The race is on!’

The focus of deliberations during the event will be on the dramatic developments of the African continent and it’s impact on South Africa as a country.

Initiatives, such as the landmark local production of vehicles in Nigeria, are among the issues that will be analysed.

National Association of Automotive Components and Allied Manufacturers of South Africa executive director Robert Houdet said the African market had a great significance to South Africa.

“Africa is being considered by the world as one of the final automotive frontiers and the South African supply chain is quite literally in a race to capture a significant share of the opportunities that exist,” said Houdet.

350 government and automotive leaders will attend the conference .

Head of Nigeria’s Automotive Council, Aminu Jalal, and Mike Whitfield, CEO of Nissan SA will be addressing audiences.

Other speakers include Chris Hillier of Federal Mogul, Mazwi Tunyiswa of the Industrial Development Corporation and business executive Victor Kgomoeswana.
