Domestic watch springs into action

MIDRAND - Billy Rudlin, chairman of the Midrand Community Policing Forum described a joint effort with the Sector 2 unit of the forum and the Midrand police as successful.

The spring day session for domestic helpers was also an anti-crime awareness campaign and was held at Anton Hartman Park.

Rudlin said the attendance was great, “We had about 30 people who attended, including gardeners. However, we are planning to reach a lot more people when we engage with domestic helpers that don’t live in the area [Vorna Valley].”

He also extended his gratitude to everyone who was in attendance and those that made the day enjooyable. “Especially Vorna Valley Spar for the drinks and rolls that they sponsored,” said Rudlin.

Sergeant Nanty Belebesi social crime prevention co-ordinator of the police said, “The event was for domestic helpers to learn more about crime prevention and be part of a safer Midrand.”

Belebesi gave the domestic workers safety tips to prevent crime and informed them about the telephone numbers to contact should they be suspicious of criminal activities in their area.

Rudlin stressed that the programme was a pilot run and should it be successful, the forum would extend it to other areas of Midrand.
