Blendwell gets award

MIDRAND - The Eco-Logic Awards were held in association with Enviropaedia and SABC3 on 17 September.

One of the big winners was Blendwell Chemicals. The Midrand-based chemical company that produces environmentally responsible products, took home the Transport award.

The post event statement from Enviropaedia said, “[They have] significant transport challenges, risks and costs. The judges noted that their answer to the problem was elegant in its simplicity. By changing their product composition from water-based to a super-concentrate, they dramatically reduced the transport requirement, thereby reducing their carbon footprint.”

The managing director of the company, Judy Nankervis, was quick to add that their project ticked all the boxes. “Local and rural communities are able to create their own product that can be sold within their communities. Entrepreneurs can be developed within these communities and local people can be hired to help manufacture and sell these products,” she said.

“Also, our cleaning products are eco-friendly which means less impact on the environment,” she said.

The company, which has been operating in Midrand for 15 years, believes by winning this award, they are able to increase the business reputation of companies.

“Midrand is home to many businesses and has a strong manufacturing and industrial community. By these businesses growing, we create a stronger bridge between the businesses in Johannesburg and Pretoria, therefore creating a hub,” said Nankervis.
