‘Meat’ the new cubs

MIDRAND - Lory Park Animal and Owl Sanctuary would like to introduce two of their latest furry members.

White lion cubs Hero and Harmony were born on 12 July, a day that Kelly Duligal, the zoo’s manager, described as “different”.

One of the cubs got stuck in the birth process and to save the lives of mother and cub, a caesarean section had to be performed. None the less, two bouncing cubs were welcomed into the zoo that day.

“Unfortunately, Heidi, their mother, was initially too weak to look after her babies. So, as opposed to the original plan, they had to be taken from her and hand-reared,” said Duligal.

“Hero and Harmony are very affectionate and playful cubs but they do show their own personalities already,” said Duligal. She described Hero as a typical male. “He is very chilled and laid back. However, he is greedy when it comes to food and sometimes grumpy when he doesn’t get his way.”

Harmony is the total opposite of her brother. “She is rather shy and inquisitive at the same time. However, she responds very well to people interaction.”
