Metro officer shot dead in Ivory Park

IVORY PARK - A Johannesburg Metro police officer was shot dead in Ivory Park 16 September. Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minaar said the officer, Pieyega Moremi, was killed by two suspects.

“The deceased was in Ivory Park fixing a puncture on one of the car tyres, as he had finished duty. Two armed men robbed him of his firearm, shot him in the head and he died at the scene of the crime.”

Minaar stated that this was the third shooting of a Metro police officer since July this year.

“On 11 July a Metro police officer was shot dead in Diepsloot, in August an officer was shot in the leg by one of three suspects in Soweto while two officers were manning a speed camera.”

Gauteng Provincial Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Khensani Magoai said a murder docket had been opened.

“Police are on a manhunt for two suspects who shot and killed the Metro police officer. Anyone with information about the shooting can contact police.”
