Newborn baby’s body found

KAALFONTAIN - A body of a newborn child has been found in Riverside, next to Kaalfontein.

The baby was allegedly dumped in a river by its mother after it was born. Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “Police arrested a Zimbabwean woman in Ebony park this morning after her boyfriend reported that the lady had given birth to a healthy baby who was alive on 10 September and threw the baby into a river at Umfayaneng section in Tembisa. The woman said she could not afford to buy clothes for the baby.

“The woman’s boyfriend told police that on 11 September he noticed that the woman who had been nine months pregnant was no longer pregnant. He asked her about the baby but the accused refused to respond.”

Sekgobela said relatives of the complainant and community members confronted the woman and asked where she took the baby, but she refused to answer and the police were called. The woman will appear in court soon on a charge of murder.
