Woodrock appeals for donations

MIDRAND - Woodrock Animal Rescue a non-profit rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing facility that needs donations to continue its work.

The organisation will be having a book sale on 12 to 14 September, from 9am, at Carlswald Lifestyle Centre (in front of SuperSpar), Midrand.

The shelter provides assistance to homeless, abused, neglected, unwanted geriatric, stray, injured, and ill animals. They also provide food, necessary medical care such as vaccinations and sterilizations, and preventative medicine including de-worming, flea and tick dips.

The center has been running for 13 years.

“We are involved with the local community and strive to educate the local people and the public, especially children, on the importance of pet sterilization and responsible pet ownership. We also educate local communities on the humane treatment of animals. Our centre has an above-average rescue centre environment. Each rescue receives personal attention, touch and love,” said Susanne Venter of the organisation.

According to Venter, this promotes the rehabilitation and healing process so that successful re-homing can take place quickly, thereby creating space for the next rescue.

The shelter also does micro-chipping, whereby an animal has a chip inserted under their skin in order to easily verify their identity if they get lost. This is part of their fundraising campaign.

There are many ways the public, corporate entities and community can assist, said Venter.

One can send an SMS with the word “DOG” to 40733 and donate R20. Sponsor a sterilization for R250. Cat and dog food donations are welcome, as well as black plastic bags. One can also apply to adopt one of the animals.

Book donations will be accepted on the day of the book sale.
