Khuli Chana drops charges

MIDRAND - The charges against the two officers involved in the shooting of musician Khuli Chana were dropped when they appeared at Randburg Magistrates' Court on 10 September.

Sam Baloyi and Mduzuzi Nzuza faced charges of attempted murder, reckless use of a firearm and reckless endangerment. They faced a charge of failure to use reasonable precautions to avoid danger while shooting at Chana’s car in a case of mistaken identity on 28 October last year.

But these were dropped on 10 September after an out-of-court settlement had been reached.

Chana was wounded in the hand and back at a Caltex garage in Midrand.

Police had been chasing suspects involved in a kidnapping in Bedforview who were using the garage as a ransom drop-off point.
