Spelling of road name at a crossroads
MIDRAND - A web search of Allandale Road shows that the name is often spelt incorrectly.
Some advertisements and websites use Allendale Road instead of Allandale Road.
This was brought to Midrand Reporter’s attention on a Midrand Facebook group.
Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport spokesperson, Isaac Dhludhlu said, “According to the 4th edition of the Gauteng map street guide, the official spelling is Allandale and not Allendale as indicated in some material on websites.”
He said all road and street name spelling issues could be reported to the department.
For road names under the Johannesburg Roads Agency’s jurisdiction, spokesperson Bertha Peter-Scheepers said, “The agency can rectify a road name if it is not spelt correctly on a signboard.”
