Lions Club gives back to the community

MIDRAND - The Lions club in Midrand is a public benefit organisation that provides services to the Midrand community.

The club is part of the international Lions clubs in 208 countries around the world.

Cliff Hocking of the club said, “Club members decide how much time they have available to spend on community service and fundraising projects.”

Core programmes at the club include:

  •  Sight-related activities with regular eye testing every third Thursday of every month in conjunction with Option optometrists.
  •  Regular outings for the aged such as bingo activities.
  •  Diabetes awareness programmes.
  •  Work with the youth and well as the LEO club, membership drawn from high schools.
  •  Ongoing support for the SPCA, Animals in Distress and Lory Park Animal Sanctuary.
  •  Support for local underprivileged communities.
  •  Caring for the environment.

“Funds are raised through various projects such as having golf days, catering and book sales. This year the club looks to expand its base to Sandton, Alexandra and Fourways and Lonehill,” he said.
