Ward 112 councillor Candice James said the project was in the very early stages and further discussions needed to take place.

“We will be engaging with residents and owners near the affected area, commuters, taxi operators, Johannesburg Roads Agency, Metro police, vendors and so on to get input from all effected parties,” she said.

The cost of building the rank and how to best get a return on the investment is also to be discussed with the relevant stakeholders. “[Financial issues] are still premature at this stage, but I would hope to see that all parties take ownership and pride of this project because it is to help everyone,” she said.
