Not two but five on board the ark

CHARTWELL - Five new puppies are the latest addition to Ark's happy menagerie.

After just one week in the shelter of Ark Animal Centre’s haven for puppies and pregnant mothers, Sheena gave birth to five pocket-sized pups, two males and three females.

Sheena arrived on Ark’s doorstep days after a school educational talk inspired one young girl to give her dog the chance of a better life at the centre.

All five of the new arrivals are healthy and happy, although one undersized puppy will need special medical care after being born with a cleft lip.

Fortunately for the well-connected pup, he has been sponsored by Paul Strydom for the necessary medical care, and his deformity hasn’t prevented him finding his way into his carers’ hearts.

“He has the cheekiest attitude already – he is just amazing,” said Ark’s Candice Eilertsen.

The puppies will be given a good start in new families when they reach eight weeks of age. Sheena, too, will get a chance at a new life thanks to Ark, and will be sterilised and put up for adoption as soon as her pups are weaned.
