Give back on Mandela Day

MIDRAND - Community organisations have urged the public to join them for 67 minutes on 18 July to celebrate the late Nelson Mandela’s life with a day of giving and community engagement.

At 11am on Mandela Day, the Greater Kyalami Conservancy’s Green Neighbourhood Project will clean up Diepsloot with the help of community members and organisations. Community members are to meet outside Diepsloot Mall and taxis will provide transport to the clean-up site.

Mandy Collins of the project said the focus was on sanitation and the goal was to fix 67 leaking taps in Extension 1. Community members may also help by donating R40 to the Water and Sanitation Services Upgrading Programme. Those with plumbing skills are urged to assist on the day and all people who wish to attend should bring rubbish bags, gloves and the willingness to get a little dirty.
