Explosive situation in check

MIDRAND - Members of Gauteng Police Emergency Services based in Midrand, confiscated explosives in Pretoria and put criminals behind bars on 29 April.

Media liaison officer Captain Pinky Tsinyane, said two suspects were arrested by Pretoria K9 members for illegal possession of explosives on the corner of Eskia Mphahlele and Mitchell streets in Pretoria.

“It is alleged that members spotted a suspicious gold BMW that was filling up… at the petrol station and requested backup. [They] arrived and helped search the vehicle with two occupants.

“They recovered a set of balaclavas, explosives called commercial water power gel, car keys and a licence disc of an A4 Audi which matched a Honeydew case number,” said Tsinyane.

She said the Audi was traced to the corner of Thabo Sehume and Paul Kruger streets in Pretoria’s central business district. Another suspected stolen Toyota Hilux was recovered from the suspects’ residential address in Centurion.

Gauteng 10111 received information that the suspects were on their way to Limpopo when they were caught by the Gauteng Police Emergency Services and all three vehicles have been confiscated. Tsinyane said investigations would continue.

“Thank you to our investigators who are working hard [so] that the criminals could not get the bail. They appeared twice in the Pretoria Magistrate court with no bail,” said Tsinyane.
