Young man hangs himself

RABIE RIDGE - A 19-year-old-student was found dead at Rabie Ridge Extension 2 on 1 May.

Rabie Ridge police spokesperson Constable Jacob Mhlongo said, “According to the suicide note found in his trouser pocket, the young man hanged himself on a soccer goal post because he believed he failed his family.”

Constable Mhlongo added, “It is alleged that earlier that day the deceased had been drinking with a friend and asked to drive his uncle’s car, but the uncle refused. When the young man’s body was found the family and police suspected that maybe he had been murdered and hung there. After police and family members compared the handwriting on the suicide note and the handwriting of the deceased, police ruled out foul play.”

Constable Mhlongo added, “The family is distraught and wished he could have spoken to them instead of taking his life. They said they never saw him as a failure. Anyone who feels overwhelmed and needs someone to talk to should contact our social workers at the police station.”
